Vernal pools temporary bodies of water found in forested lands in the springtime. By late spring these pools dry up for the remainder of the year but not before they provide an important breeding habitat to a variety of animals such as the wood frog, spotted salamander and fairy shrimp.x Access to the pool is a short walk in from the Ledges Trail-head, however, sturdy hiking boots or shoes are still recommended for this 2-hour program.
