About Us Based in Bridgton, Maine, Loon Echo serves the towns of Raymond, Casco, Naples, Harrison, Sebago, Bridgton and Denmark. In these seven towns on the north side of Sebago Lake, we have protected more than 3,307 acres of land, including 14 conservation easements and 6 preserves.
Mission Statement To preserve land and natural resources in the northern Sebago Lake region for recreation, education, wildlife and plant habitat, watershed and air quality, sustainable farms and forests for current and future generations to enjoy.
History Loon Echo was formed in 1987 by Bob Chase, a compassionate leader in the community who saw the need to preserve the natural areas of the region.
Since then, Loon Echo has helped farmers, permanent and seasonal residents, and others protect their land through conservation easements. Our first preserves, Mayberry Hill Preserve and Bald Pate Mountain Preserve, are beautiful areas for the public to enjoy with walking and cross country ski trails. We have become partners with the Lakes Environmental Association to purchase land around Holt Pond and the Muddy River, headwaters to Sebago Lake. Just recently we have acquired the Pleasant Mountain Preserve, a hiking destination for many, and are continually working on the Sebago Headwaters Preserve (see our preserve page for more details).
For years Loon Echo was managed by a volunteer based Board of Directors. Bob Chase, founder, sadly passed away on February 19, 2005 and his legacy lives on today.
In March of 2008 LELT selected Carrie Walia as executive director. Learn more about Carrie and LELT’s future goals by reading the Bridgton News article, printed on March 13th.
