About the Initiative The Upland Headwaters Alliance, a collaboration of area land trusts, protects lands and waters essential to preserving the contiguous ecosystem of our common region. Working with its member trusts and other partners, the Alliance focuses on opportunities across its region that are most effectively addressed through joint action, while maintaining the autonomy of each trust. It encourages public awareness of the natural environment of the region, identifies projects and activities that extend beyond the reach of individual land trusts and other entities, and undertakes action programs to protect land and waterways and promote balance between growth and conservation. The Alliance’s focus project is the Crooked River Initiative (Crooked River shown in the photo below, flowing into Sebago Lake).
