Mushers Bowl and the Winter Carnival - Loon Echo and Five Fields Farm are excited to have the 2007 Mushers Bowl dogsled and skijoring races come to South Bridgton. Pondicherry Park Snowshoe Hikes- Explore Pondicherry Park, a Loon Echo-LEA project, on snowshoes. Meet at LEA/LELT office building at 230 Main Street. Snowshoes available. FMI call LEA at 207-647-8580.
Trail Maintenance with the Maine Chapter of AMC - Join volunteers from Loon Echo and Maine Chapter of the AMC for work on the Ledges trail. Several new sections of trail were cleared in the past few years. Work this year includes trail stabilization and leveling. No experience or tools needed. Contact Jon for more info.
Bald Pate Mountain Hike w/ Maine Chapter AMC- Snowshoe or hike depending on snow conditions to top of Bald Pate Mountain in South Bridgton. 1.2 miles to an elevation of 1100 feet. Contact: Peg Nation 207-583-2720 (Before 9PM)
Pleasant Mtn Hike w/ Maine Chapter AMC- Take a moderately paced hike: approx. 5 miles and 1500' elevation gain (depending upon leader's choice of trails). Earth Day Hike- April 22nd, 5:00 PM For Earth Day enjoy a spring hike up Bald Pate Mountain in South Bridgton and scramble down the hill to enjoy the Bald Pate Celebration Ale, brewed by Rob Prindall of Bray’s Brew Pub on Route 302 in Naples. A portion of the proceeds go to Loon Echo; so have a drink! Hike is at 3:00 and/or meet for drinks around 5:00 at Bray’s. If it’s raining- just go straight to the brew!
Solstice Hike on Bald Pate Mtn. - June 20th, 5:00 PM Join Loon Echo Land Trust for its traditional hike up the Bob Chase Trail on Bald Pate Mountain to celebrate the first day of summer and to remember Bob Chase, founder of Loon Echo. A short walk of 20-30 minutes brings you to the rocky summit of Bald Pate Mountain with views of the surrounding lakes and hills. All are welcome.
Mountain Film Tour for Pondicherry Park- June 24th, 5:00 PM & 8:00 PM Join Loon Echo and LEA for an evening of outstanding adventure and environmental films by premier independent filmmakers at the Magic Lantern in Bridgton. This evenings proceeds will be donated to the Pondicherry Park project. The night offers two seatings with a different set of films and a raffle beforehand. Little Explorers at Mayberry Hill Preserve July 18th, 10:30 - 12:00 For ages 6 to 12. Identify trees and wildlife. Learn about stonewalls. Gentle terrain but sturdy shoes recommended. Please bring your bug spray, camera and a picnic lunch. Contact: Jon Evans
Hike on Pleasant Mountain August 15th, 9:00-2:00 An active hike along the Southwest Ridge Trail to the summit of 2,006 feet. Hiking boots, water and energy rich snacks required. Special Program on Wildlife- August 16th, 6:00 - 9:00 PM The Greater Lovell Land Trust, LEA and Loon Echo are sponsoring a extensive wildlife program and showcase with nationally recognized naturalist Susan Morse of “Keeping Track”. Presentation from 6 to 9 PM at Lakes Region High School. A $5 donation will be collected at the door. Coffee and dessert to follow.
Annual Meeting- August 24th, 5:00 - 8:00 PM LELT’s 21st annual meeting will be at Camp Wohelo in Raymond. A $10 chicken dinner, organizational update and business meeting will take place from 5 -7:30 PM. Sign up by contacting Loon Echo.

Environmental Educational Grants - Each year Loon Echo Land Trust offers schools and libraries in its service area (Bridgton, Casco, Denmark, Harrison, Naples, Sebago and Raymond) environmental educational grants. School and libraries can apply for a small grant starting November 15, 2008 until the January 15, 2009 deadline. Please download the grant application form and return it to Loon Echo by the listed deadline. Please contact us if you have questions on this program.
